REENACTING ARCHITECTURE
Visual artists SV Randall and Alice Pedroletti collaborate on a new performance project amongst ancient ruins.
The duo met while conducting research at Polo Museale di Soriano Calabro and Villa Romana di Casignana in Calabria Italy as part of the In-Ruins residency program. With overlapping interests in materiality, archaeology, futurology, and archives - Pedroletti and Randall’s Reenacting Architecture engages with the architectural remnants of the Villa Romana di Casignana, originally built in the first century AD.
Set amongst ornate floor mosaics and crumbling walls covered in marble veneers, Reenacting Architecture positions the artists bodies in relationship to the material and spatial qualities of the architectural fragments of Villa Romana. The duo reenacts the voids and negative spaces of the architectural ruins while simultaneously exploring narrative symbolisms.
